Icepocalypse 2011

Last week, I was stuck in Indianapolis during Icepocalypse 2011.  To tell you the truth, I was kind of glad that my Tuesday night flight was cancelled.  It meant I got to stay in Indy for another night and have a snow day with my roommates from college.  It was like being at Purdue all over again!

1. What’s your favorite kind of donut?
Chocolate with sprinkles! Yum!  And the donut place in Pike's Place Market makes fabulous donuts with chocolate icing and sprinkles.  

2. Do you use the snooze button?
Sometimes.  Just depends on the day.  I try not to but some days are so hard.  

3. Do you write in cursive, print, or a combination of the two?
Print.  

4. Tell us a joke.
Hmmm, I don't know any good jokes.  Sorry, I'm boring.  

5. How many languages do you speak?
One - English ... I wish I spoke more but I haven't had the opportunity to live anywhere long enough to completely immerse myself in the language.  

6. Why did you start blogging?
To keep my family and friends in the Midwest updated on my new life out in the Pacific Northwest.  Now it's become a creative outlet and an e-scrapbook.  

7. Do you use bar soap or liquid body wash?
Dove liquid body wash.  

8. Do you buy bottled water?
Not usually, but sometimes.  

9. What did you think of the Super Bowl Half Time Show?
Did not love it.  But I did like the cool light-up outfits that the dancers were wearing.  

10. How do you feel about Steve Carell leaving The Office?
Well, I wasn't a regular viewer of The Office, but over the past couple of weeks I've been watching all the seasons on Netflix.  I started with Season One and I love it!  And I don't know what took me so long to get into it!  As I've said before ... I'm late to jump on the bandwagon.  Anyways, I haven't been watching the current season so I don't know what's going on this season, but I really can't imagine The Office without Steve Carrell.  

Tourists for a day ...

Over MLK weekend, J. and I had a "tourist day" in Seattle with our friends.  We had so much fun and I knocked a few things off my Seattle Bucket List!

We started out at the Ballard Locks ... watching boats move from the freshwater Lakes Union and Washington to saltwater Puget Sound: 

And then we headed to Fremont where we saw the Fremont Troll:

After we saw the troll, we walked around Fremont and had lunch at a Greek restaurant before heading to Kerry Park.  According to the Parks and Recreation website ... "Kerry Park affords Seattle's most famous view of Elliot Bay and downtown, with Mt. Rainier for a backdrop on clear days."

After Kerry Park, we headed to the Experience Music Project.  We saw a cool tower made of guitars:

A Jimi Hendrix exhibit complete with a ticket to Woodstock ... $24.00 for all three days!

It was a lot of fun ... the guys LOVED the recording studio!

After we left the Experience Music Project, we wanted to go to the top of Smith Tower but we missed it by 15 minutes.  I got a good picture of the tower though:

We had such a fun time being tourists and it was great to see some of the things that aren't as well known as the Space Needle and Pike's Place Market!

Happy February friends!  It's also Tuesday, so you know what that means ...

1. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Hands down, it's a Christmas memory.  My parents were SO good at playing Santa and creating special Christmas memories for us.  One year, my sister and I got Barbie's Dream House and my parents took the time to set up all the furniture that came with it and adding all our Barbie's and accessories so it was all ready to be played with when we came downstairs on Christmas morning.  

2. What is your favorite quality about yourself?
Hmm, this is a hard one.  Obviously I have TONS of great qualities :)  But, the one I'm most proud of right now is my punctuality.  I am ALWAYS late, so for one of my New Year's resolutions, I chose to work on being on time.  And, I must say, I am doing pretty well.  

3. What is your favorite thing that your child does?
No kids here!  

4. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
Hmm, there are a couple.  If I had a job, I'd say getting a massage.  But, I don't so ... running, yoga, watching sTV or having a glass of wine with a friend.  

5. What is your favorite restaurant? And what is your favorite thing on the menu?
All the questions are hard this week!  I don't think I have one particular favorite restaurant ... I love sushi, so any good sushi restaurant.  I like to order shrimp tempura rolls and any special signature roll the restaurant has.  

6. What is your favorite piece of jewelry (besides your wedding ring)?
My watch - it was my dad's and my David Yurman ring:

7. What is your favorite night of the week M-TH? And why?
I love Thursday nights ... I don't work (and by work I mean volunteer) on Fridays so it's my "Friday" night.  Plus there's a TON of good TV on.  I like to have a glass of wine and watch lots and lots of TV.  


8. What is your favorite dessert?
That's a hard one.  I LOVE all things sweet.  But, I think the absolute best dessert I have ever had was a chocolate creme brulee from Palomino.  It was amazing.  

9. What is your favorite item in your make-up bag?
Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion -- Santa brought it to me in my stocking two Christmas's ago and my life has not been the same since.  You put a tiny bit on before applying your eyeshadow and your eyeshadow looks perfect all day.  It's amazinggg.  And it lasts forever.  I'm on my second tube.  And I use it almost daily.

10. What is your favorite smell?
Fresh mountain air.  Or Marc Jacobs Daisy.  

I've FINALLY decided what color scheme I want to use in my kitchen ... I've been plagued by this for months now.  While I can't completely makeover my current kitchen (we're renting and I'm not going to paint), I can work on looking for things for my future kitchen.

The main color I want to use is the one in the bottom, right-hand corner:

"Snap"

It's a little bold, but it's my absolute favorite color.  In the last two apartments I lived in before moving to Washington, I painted accent walls in my bedroom with Snap.  I plan on doing accent walls in the kitchen and then using black, white and a pale turquoise to accent it.  I think it will be very cheerful and energetic and perfect for a kitchen.  

And, as if it wasn't exciting enough to finally figure out what I wanted to do with my kitchen, I found some perfect pieces for it in Indy today.  In the four years that I lived here, I always wanted to go to the Midland Arts & Antique Market but I never made it there.  I had some free time this afternoon so I decided to pop in ... and I am so glad that I did!  I found some pieces of Fiestaware that I've been eyeing and they were SUCH. A. GOOD. DEAL.  It was amazing really.  I got this beautiful pitcher:

The pitcher retails for $48.00.  Price at Midland:  $12.00.  I could not believe my eyes.

In turquoise!  I can't wait to get home and put them on display in the kitchen!  For all of you who are looking for ways to freshen up your house on the cheap, check out your local antique stores!  You can find some amazing deals.  Now I'm on the hunt for the spoon rest in Peacock and possibly the salt and pepper shakers as well ... but only if I can find a good deal!
